About the film
Daughters of Darkness (1971)
On their honeymoon, a young couple stops at a grand but nearly empty seaside hotel in Belgium, where they encounter the mysterious and alluring Countess Elizabeth Báthory and her silent companion. As the days unfold, psychological games and sensual tension build, revealing that the Countess may be far olderÑand deadlierÑthan she seems. Directed by Harry KŸmel, Daughters of Darkness is a hypnotic blend of eroticism, gothic horror, and European art cinema. With its dreamlike atmosphere, striking color palette, and haunting performancesÑespecially Delphine Seyrig’s elegant and chilling turn as BáthoryÑthe film is a slow-burning, stylish meditation on desire, control, and immortality. A cult classic of queer and vampire cinema.
