About the film
Jaws (1975), directed by Steven Spielberg, is a suspense thriller set in the seaside town of Amity Island, where a series of deadly shark attacks disrupt the busy summer tourist season. When a young woman is killed, local police chief Martin Brody pushes to close the beaches, but the town’s mayor refuses, fearing economic loss.
As the attacks continue, Brody teams up with marine biologist Matt Hooper and grizzled shark hunter Quint to track down and kill the great white shark responsible. The trio set out on Quint’s boat, the Orca, leading to a tense and increasingly dangerous hunt at sea.
Blending character-driven drama with escalating suspense, Jaws is renowned for its masterful pacing, iconic score, and restrained use of the shark, which heightens the fear of the unseen. It became the first major summer blockbuster and remains a landmark in thriller filmmaking.
