About the film
After escaping a childhood marked by unimaginable abuse, Lucie spends years searching for those responsible. When she finally believes she has found them, a shocking act of revenge sets in motion a harrowing chain of events that draws her closest friend, Anna, into an increasingly disturbing nightmare.
As long-buried secrets begin to emerge, the pair uncover a horrifying conspiracy that pushes them beyond the limits of physical and psychological endurance. What begins as a revenge story evolves into something far more unsettling, confronting questions of suffering, faith and the nature of human transcendence.
Written and directed by Pascal Laugier, Martyrs is one of the defining films of the New French Extremity movement. Uncompromising, deeply unsettling and relentlessly intense, it has earned a reputation as one of the most challenging and provocative horror films ever made.
