Synopsis

Pearl serves as a prequel to X (2022), exploring the early life of its unhinged antagonist. Set in 1918 on a remote Texas farm, Pearl (Mia Goth) is a young woman suffocating under the weight of rural isolation, wartime absence and the oppressive rule of her devout German mother. With her husband away and the Spanish Flu raging, Pearl dreams of stardom Ñ craving escape, recognition and a life in technicolor.

But as her fantasies begin to curdle into madness, PearlÕs violent instincts surface. Cruelty, betrayal and murder escalate as repression gives way to something far more feral. With lush, vintage-inspired visuals and a chilling central performance from Mia Goth, Pearl is a dazzling and disturbing descent into the making of a monster.
