The film
About the film
Speed Racer (2008), directed by Lana and Lilly Wachowski, is a visually bold adaptation of the classic anime series. The story follows young racing prodigy Speed Racer, who is driven to honour the legacy of his older brother Rex by becoming the world’s best driver. Backed by his supportive family and girlfriend Trixie, Speed turns down a lucrative offer from a powerful corporation, Royalton Industries, after discovering that professional racing is heavily manipulated for profit.
As he competes in the dangerous cross-country race known as the Crucible, Speed faces sabotage, fierce rivals, and long-buried truths about his brother. Combining family drama with high-octane action, the film uses vibrant colours and stylised CGI to recreate the feel of anime. At its core, it’s a story about integrity, loyalty, and resisting corruption, wrapped in a fast-paced, visually distinctive racing spectacle.
