The Florida Project Limited Edition 4K Ultra HD + Blu-Ray

Director: Sean Baker

Sean Baker’s The Florida Project is a tender yet unflinching portrait of childhood lived in the shadows of the American dream. Set on the fringes of Walt Disney World in Kissimmee, Florida, the film follows six-year-old Moonee and her friends as they spend their summer running wild around the pastel-coloured Magic Castle motel. Through Moonee’s eyes, the world is full of wonder, mischief, and adventure, even as the adults around her grapple with poverty, eviction, and survival. Her mother, Halley, a rebellious young woman barely scraping by, hustles to keep them afloat, frequently clashing with authority and skirting the edge of desperation. Motel manager Bobby, played by Willem Dafoe in one of his most humane performances, acts as a quiet guardian, doing what he can to protect the children while maintaining the fragile balance of the community. Using vibrant cinematography, naturalistic performances, and handheld realism, Baker contrasts the innocence of childhood with the harsh realities of systemic poverty. The result is both heartbreaking and joyous — a story of resilience and imagination, and a love letter to childhood that doubles as a stark reminder of the unseen lives lived at the margins of the “Happiest Place on Earth”.
