About the film
In The Ugly Stepsister, an impressionable and idealistic young woman dreams of marrying the kingdom’s princeÑbut her hopes are threatened by her own stepsister, whose beauty and charm capture the prince’s attention. As the rivalry escalates, the protagonist becomes consumed by the pursuit of perfection, resorting to increasingly extreme and disturbing methods to transform herself. A dark fairy tale for modern audiences, The Ugly Stepsister subverts the Cinderella myth with striking visuals, grotesque body horror, and psychological depth. Director Emilie Blichfeldt crafts a visceral commentary on vanity, societal pressure, and the destructive toll of obsession.
