The film

About the film

When Max Renn, the president of a sleazy cable television station, discovers the pirate broadcast of an underground programme known as Videodrome, he believes he has found the future of shock entertainment. But his search for the source of the mysterious signal draws him into an increasingly surreal world of political conspiracies, sadomasochistic obsession and horrifying bodily transformation.

As the line between reality and hallucination begins to dissolve, Max is forced to confront a terrifying new media landscape where television is no longer simply watched—it changes those who watch it.

Written and directed by David Cronenberg, Videodrome is one of the defining works of body horror cinema. Featuring unforgettable performances from James Woods and Deborah Harry, alongside Academy Award-winning makeup effects by Rick Baker, the film remains a visionary exploration of media, technology, censorship and human evolution.
