Event Horizon (1997) is a claustrophobic sci‑fi horror directed by Paul W. S. Anderson, following a rescue crew led by Captain Miller (Laurence Fishburne) as they board the reappeared spaceship Event Horizon in orbit around Neptune. Designed to create a wormhole, the vessel has instead brought back a malevolent supernatural force from “Hell,” leading the crew into nightmarish visions and gruesome deaths. Anderson’s film combines visceral practical effects and gothic production design to evoke cosmic terror, with a standout, atmospheric performance by Sam Neill and Kathleen Quinlan. Over time it became a cult classic, noted for its unsettling tone and ambition despite initial studio-driven edits.
