Żuławski’s direction fuses psychological horror, surrealism, and political metaphor in an unrelenting portrait of identity collapse. Isabelle Adjani delivers one of cinema’s most iconic performances—her infamous subway scene remains a harrowing display of raw emotional and physical release. Possession is a singular, disturbing masterpiece of European horror.
