Prince of Broadway Blu-ray The Criterion Collection US Edition

Prince of Broadway (2008) is an independent drama film written and directed by Sean Baker. The film follows Lucky, a Ghanaian immigrant hustling counterfeit sneakers and designer goods on the streets of New York City. His life is turned upside down when a former partner shows up with a surprise: a young son he never knew he had.

Set in the gritty underbelly of Manhattan, the story captures Lucky’s struggle to juggle sudden fatherhood, survival on the streets, and the immigrant experience—all with raw realism and emotional honesty. The film explores themes of identity, responsibility, and the pursuit of the American Dream.

Critically acclaimed for its naturalistic performances and cinéma vérité style, Prince of Broadway cemented Sean Baker’s reputation as a filmmaker focused on marginalized voices and urban authenticity.
