The film
About the film
Queer (2024), directed by Luca Guadagnino, is a period romantic drama adapted from William S. Burroughs’1985 novella. Set in 1950s Mexico City and Ecuador, the film follows William Lee (Daniel Craig), an American expatriate grappling with addiction and isolation. Lee becomes infatuated with Eugene Allerton (Drew Starkey), a younger man who maintains an emotional distance. Their complex relationship leads them on a journey to South America in search of yagé, a hallucinogenic plant believed to grant telepathic abilities. The film delves into themes of unrequited desire, identity, and the human longing for connection.
