The film
About the film
Unreleased for nearly twenty years, Eugenio Mira’s long-lost genre mashup finally emerges from the shadows.
Shrouded in cult legend, The Birthday has built a near-mythic reputation among cinephiles. Directed by Eugenio Mira (Grand Piano) and shot on a single, elaborately constructed set, this deliriously offbeat dark comedy stars Corey Feldman (The Lost Boys) in a career-best performance that wildly subverts expectations.
Feldman plays Norman Forrester, a painfully awkward everyman who chooses the lavish birthday party of his girlfriend Alison’s (Erica Prior) wealthy father (cult icon Jack Taylor, Conan the Barbarian) as the perfect time to propose. But strange guests, unnervingly polite hotel staff, and a string of surreal encounters soon spiral into something far more sinister. Norman finds himself entangled in an apocalyptic occult conspiracy that threatens not just his relationship, but the fate of the world.
Equal parts screwball comedy, cosmic horror, and fever dream, The Birthday is an unforgettable descent into madnessÑnow finally restored in glorious 4K from the original negative and presented by Arrow Video in the definitive release it always deserved.
