About the film
Director: Sean Baker directed "Anora," released in 2024. Baker, known for his humanist storytelling and focus on marginalized communities, has directed several acclaimed indie films like "Tangerine" and "The Florida Project." With "Anora," Baker continues to explore the complexities of human relationships through a fresh and engaging narrative.
Plot: The film follows Ani Mikheeva (Mikey Madison), a young sex worker in Brooklyn, who meets and impulsively marries Ivan "Vanya" Zakharov (Mark Eydelshteyn), the son of a Russian oligarch. Their brief honeymoon is disrupted when Ivan's parents learn of the union and send enforcers to annul the marriage. Ani's courage and determination are tested as she navigates this conflict, blending humor and drama in a tale of love, power, and identity.
Awards: "Anora" received critical acclaim, winning the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival and earning several award nominations, including Best Actress and Best Director at the Golden Globes.
