Él (Spanish: “Him”) is a tense psychological thriller about obsession, jealousy, and paranoia. The film follows Francisco (Arturo de Córdova), a devout and seemingly respectable professional, who becomes fixated on Gloria (Delia Garcés), a young woman he pursues with religious fervour. Over time, Francisco’s charm unravels: his jealousy grows invasive, his suspicions deepen, and his love becomes a nightmare of control. Through stark visuals and disquieting performances, Buñuel turns a domestic drama into a claustrophobic portrait of a man possessed by his own neuroses. The film is often read as a critique of toxic masculinity, the fragility of identity, and how obsession can warp the ordinary.
