Death of a Unicorn (2025) is a dark fantasy horror-comedy directed by Alex Scharfman in his feature debut. The film follows Elliot Kintner and his teenage daughter, Ridley, who accidentally hit and kill a unicorn while en route to a corporate retreat hosted by Elliot’s employer, Odell Leopold. Upon discovering the unicorn’s body, Odell and his family, who run a pharmaceutical empire, seek to exploit the creature’s miraculous healing properties. Unbeknownst to them, the unicorn’s death triggers a vengeful response from its kin, leading to a series of gruesome events. The film satirizes corporate greed and explores themes of familial bonds and the consequences of exploiting nature. It premiered at the South by Southwest Festival on March 8, 2025, and was released theatrically in the United States by A24 on March 28, 2025.
