The film
About the film
Geoffrey Wright's blistering debut follows a volatile neo-Nazi skinhead gang in early-1990s Melbourne, led by the magnetic and terrifying Hando (Russell Crowe). As turf tensions escalate with the local Vietnamese community, the arrival of troubled outsider Gabrielle (Jacqueline McKenzie) unsettles the bond between Hando and his loyal lieutenant Davey (Daniel Pollock).
Raw, confrontational and still controversial, Romper Stomper is a landmark of Australian cinema — an unflinching portrait of extremism, loyalty and urban fury that announced Crowe as a major screen presence.
