The Dead Mother Limited Edition Blu-Ray

The Dead Mother (La madre muerta) is a 1993 Spanish drama film directed by Juanma Bajo Ulloa, featuring Karra Elejalde and Ana Álvarez. 

The narrative centers on Ismael, a petty criminal who, during a botched burglary, murders a woman and injures her young daughter, Leire, leaving her mute and mentally disconnected. Years later, Ismael encounters the now-grown Leire and, fearing recognition, kidnaps her, leading to a complex and ambiguous relationship between captor and captive. 

The film was presented at the 50th Venice International Film Festival’s ‘Venetian Nights’ section in September 1993 and later screened at the Montreal Film Festival. It was theatrically released in Spain on November 5, 1993. The film received critical acclaim, with Ulloa winning the Best Director award at the 1993 Montreal Film Festival.
