American Gigolo (1980) is a neo-noir crime drama written and directed by Paul Schrader. The film follows Julian Kaye, a high-priced male escort in Los Angeles, who becomes romantically involved with Michelle Stratton, the wife of a prominent politician. Julian’s luxurious lifestyle unravels when he is framed for the murder of one of his clients, leading him into a web of deceit and betrayal. As he strives to prove his innocence, Julian confronts the superficiality of his existence and the emptiness beneath his polished exterior. The film delves into themes of identity, morality, and the commodification of intimacy.
