Osaka, 1907. The upstart Hoshino gang attempts to assassinate the boss of the Kiyatatsu syndicate, the powerful organisation controlling the city’s construction business. The attack fails, but it ignites a violent chain reaction as the Hoshino retaliate with sabotage and murder. When the ageing Kiyatatsu boss later dies from his wounds, senior lieutenant Kikuchi (Koji Tsuruta, Big Time Gambling Boss) vows to confront the rival gang alone.

Director Tai Kato’s first yakuza film is a visual feast, combining bold set design, vivid colour palettes and striking compositions to bring this tale of honour and vengeance to life. Co-written by Red Peony Gambler creator Norifumi Suzuki and anchored by a commanding performance from Tsuruta, Blood of Revenge stands as one of the finest examples of Toei’s classic “chivalrous” yakuza cinema.
