The film
About the film
Mike Leigh’s affection for spirited, irrepressible figures shines through this tender, bittersweet ode to female friendship and hard‑won inner growth. Career Girls follows former roommates Hannah and Annie, played by Katrin Cartlidge and Lynda Steadman, who reunite in London six years after striking out on their own. Their reunion over a single weekend is full of laughter, tears, memories and chance encounters.
Across conversations and encounters they confront what it means to revisit the past: wounds that haven’t fully healed and bonds that can never be broken. The film draws on Leigh’s collaborative, improvisational rehearsal methods to deliver vividly idiosyncratic performances and multidimensional characters.
