Deadly Friend Limited Edition Blu-ray

Deadly Friend, directed by Wes Craven, is a horror-thriller that mixes science fiction with tragic romance. The film follows teenage genius Paul Conway, who moves to a new town with his mother and his homemade AI robot, BB. Paul befriends Samantha, the girl next door, who suffers abuse from her violent father. After Samantha is fatally injured, Paul uses his experimental technology to implant BB’s microchip into her brain, reviving her—but with unintended and terrifying consequences.

What begins as a story of young love and scientific curiosity quickly spirals into horror, as Samantha’s reanimation unleashes violent, robotic impulses. Though hampered by studio-mandated changes that added more gore and slasher elements, Craven’s vision aimed for a gothic sci-fi love story in the vein of Frankenstein. Despite mixed reception, Deadly Friend has since gained cult status for its mix of melodrama, tragic undertones, and outrageous practical effects (including the infamous “basketball head explosion” scene).
