Ricky Baker (Julian Dennison) is a rebellious city kid who finds himself placed with a new foster family in the remote New Zealand countryside. When circumstances leave him alone with his gruff and reluctant foster uncle Hec (Sam Neill), the unlikely pair disappear into the vast wilderness and unexpectedly become the subjects of a nationwide manhunt.

Forced to work together to survive, Ricky and Hec gradually discover that they may have more in common than either expected.
