Hush follows Maddie Young, a deaf-mute writer who retreated to a secluded house in the woods after her hearing loss from childhood meningitis. Living in isolation and coping with writer’s block, she finds some comfort in remote calls with her sister and her friend Sarah. One evening, Sarah returns a book, and as darkness falls, Maddie becomes the target of a masked killer. Unable to hear attacks, she is pushed into a tense game of cat-and-mouse, forced to rely on sight, touch, and wits to survive. As the killer sabotages her life—cutting power, disabling her car, even stealing her phone—Maddie must adapt and use everything at hand: crossbow, environment, and improvised weapons. In a brutal final struggle, she fights back, turning her vulnerability into strength and outwitting the threat. The film operates largely in silence, using sound design, lighting, and tension rather than dialogue and jump scares to amplify the dread.
