About the film
In The Old Dark House, a group of stranded travelers seeks shelter from a raging storm at a remote, eerie Welsh mansion owned by the bizarre Femm family. As night falls, tensions rise within the creaky estate, where the guests encounter a mute butler, strange rituals, and increasingly unhinged hosts. With thunder crashing outside and secrets lurking within, the house reveals a series of chilling surprises—including a deranged, pyromaniac relative locked upstairs. Directed by James Whale (Frankenstein), this atmospheric mix of gothic horror and dark comedy became a blueprint for the haunted house genre and a cult classic of early cinema.
