The film
About the film
After redefining the prison drama with A Prophet and earning a Palme d’Or for Dheepan, director Jacques Audiard turned his eye to the American Western in an adaptation of Patrick DeWitt’s novel The Sisters Brothers. Joaquin Phoenix and John C. Reilly play Charlie and Eli Sisters, Old West bounty hunters feared for their ruthlessness, who are sent by their boss, The Commodore, to track down and kill Hermann Kermit Warm (Riz Ahmed).
As the Sisters Brothers journey from Oregon to California with private detective John Morris (Jake Gyllenhaal), their allegiance and humanity are tested when they discover Warm’s actual invention: a secret formula that can detect gold. Shot by Benoît Debie, the film blends dark comedy and drama to explore betrayal, redemption and brotherhood.
