About the film
Top Secret! (1984) is an uproarious genre-parody directed by Jim Abrahams, David Zucker, and Jerry Zucker, blending Cold War spy thrillers with Elvis-style musical comedy. American rock star Nick Rivers (Val Kilmer, in his debut) is invited to perform in East Germany, unknowingly providing cover for a sinister plot to destroy NATO submarines. He becomes entangled with resistance fighter Hillary (Lucy Gutteridge) and a zany cast—including Omar Sharif—leading to absurd espionage antics, slapstick gags, and musical numbers. Renowned for its rapid-fire sight jokes and surreal comedy, it remains a cult classic—even Roger Ebert admitted its plot is “exercise in futility,” yet praised its relentless humor
