The film
About the film
Naked Lunch is a surreal plunge into addiction, paranoia, and altered consciousness, loosely adapted from William S. Burroughs’hallucinatory novel. Directed by David Cronenberg, the film follows exterminator-turned-writer Bill Lee as he descends into a nightmarish world of talking typewriters, bug powder, shadowy agents, and shifting realities. What begins as a descent into psychosis becomes a meditation on the creative process, censorship, and the cost of escape. Cronenberg fuses biography, fantasy, and literature into a grotesque fever dream—equal parts body horror, beat noir, and metafiction. With its insectoid machines and morphing realities, Naked Lunch is a disorienting, unforgettable trip through the psyche of a man—and a writer—unraveling.
