Kingdom of Heaven (2005) is an epic historical drama directed by Ridley Scott, starring Orlando Bloom as Balian of Ibelin, a blacksmith who rises to knighthood and plays a crucial role in the defense of Jerusalem during the Crusades. The film also features Eva Green, Liam Neeson, Jeremy Irons, and Ghassan Massoud.

Set in the 12th century, the story follows Balian after the death of his wife. Seeking redemption, he travels to the Holy Land, where he inherits land and a title from his estranged father (played by Liam Neeson). Amidst political intrigue and growing tensions between Christians and Muslims, Balian strives to uphold peace. As the city faces siege by the great Muslim leader Saladin, Balian must defend Jerusalem against overwhelming odds, negotiating honorably for its survival.

Kingdom of Heaven received mixed reviews upon release but was praised for its stunning visuals, grand battle scenes, and historical ambition. Ridley Scott’s later Director’s Cut (2005) was especially acclaimed, considered a vastly superior and more complete version of the film.
